NCAA Championships Showdown: In a thrilling event set to unfold at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Virginia, this Saturday morning, UNT cross country sensation, Victor Neiva, is gearing up to face off against the nation’s top talents at the NCAA Championships.
This marks Neiva’s second consecutive appearance at the national meet, securing an automatic spot after an impressive 10th-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Nov. 10. Despite clinching the 10th spot at the regional meet last season, Neiva required an at-large bid to secure a place in the NCAA Championships, ultimately finishing 193rd.
As a seasoned UNT senior, Neiva is poised to challenge the crème de la crème in the men’s 10K, commencing at 10:10 a.m. CT on Saturday. The quest for All-America honors intensifies, with the top 40 finishers earning this coveted accolade, a goal Neiva is fervently pursuing.
“We’re tremendously thrilled for his second appearance, having discussed it since last year,” expressed cross-country coach Erik Stevens. Neiva, armed with insights from the previous national meet, is determined to attain All-American status this year. Stevens is optimistic, stating, “If he maintains the same level of aggression displayed today, achieving this goal is well within reach.”
